Everything You Need to Know about Trampolines
Trampolines are one of the many physical fitness and exercise devices which consist of a piece of strong fabric that is stretched over a steel framework with the use of many coiled springs. A lot of people use trampolines for recreational, competitive and physical fitness purposes. It develops leg strength and flexibility.
A trampoline should be elastic enough for people to be able to bounce on it to a certain height. However, the elasticity of a trampoline device isn’t because of the fabric used on which the people bounce, as what it looks like. The elastic property is provided by the coiled springs that connect the fabric called taut, also known as the bounce mat or the trampoline bed, and the steel frame.
Trampolines vary according to their construction for the purpose they serve. If a trampoline’s frame is made of steel, it is called a competitive trampoline.
As the name itself suggests, it is used in competitions. Strong fabric woven from webbing makes up the bounce mat. But for a little increase in the bounce’s height, it can also be made of a two-string bounce mat woven from single thin strings.
The construction of a recreational trampoline, on the other hand, is less sturdy than that of the competitive. Its springs are relatively weaker too. Recreational trampolines’ shapes are mostly circle, octagon or rectangle. The bounce mat fabric is practically a waterproof canvas. These are commonly used in recreational activities – as the name implies – such as in sports and in exercising.
Both the competitive and recreational trampolines are made using twisted steel springs so that perfect elasticity and high rebounding force is provided.
You should be careful and responsible if you would want to acquire a trampoline because using it comes with risks. Clubs, gyms and other workout spaces place spotters alongside trampolines to support and look after any person who might lose control and fall.
This is why more accidents and injuries related to the use of trampolines happen at home. Just imagine bouncing off a trampoline and falling 3 to 4 meters from the peak to the ground. Some medical institutions even suggested that these devices get banned because of too much trampoline use-related injuries. But since they’re a good supplement for fitness and are important equipment for athletes undergoing training, trampolines didn’t get banned; only a recommendation that only one person at a time should be allowed to use it to avoid crash or clash and uncontrollable landings was released. People are constantly reminded as well to not perform somersaults or professional gymnastic routines unless they have proper training.
Fortunately, there are ways to reduce the danger caused by using trampolines. It can be buried in a way that the bed is nearer to the adjacent surface and thus lessening the possible fall distance. The surrounding area can be filled with pads too so that the person lands on soft surface. Surrounding the
trampoline with a net can also be used to serve as protection for the user from bouncing off and hitting the edges. But the best safety measure is to acquire some proper training in a sports center first and learning the basic moves and techniques which can avoid accidents and falls with an instructor while knowing the hazards.
